ICE AGE - ANTARCTIC ADVENTURE.

ICE AGE - ANTARCTIC ADVENTURE.

André Schumacher

Saturday, 01.06.2024, 12 pm & 15 pm (about 90 min - in German language)

Antarctica is the largest remaining wilderness on earth. Photo artist André Schumacher spent a quarter of a year on ice floes and passenger ships, in research stations and inflatable boats - and now takes viewers into a world whose impressions are hard to shake off.

Nowhere is it colder, windier or drier. In summer there is 24 hours of sunshine, in winter absolute darkness. And yet unimaginable vastness, loneliness and wild originality combine here to create a unique splendor. It is the realm of whales, seals and albatrosses and the largest penguin colonies in the world. Above all, however, it is a place where we can once again see ourselves for what we are: a small part of the whole.

The presentation is skillfully told, much like a novel, whose episodes not only allow the viewer to experience a geographical journey to the end of the world in impressive images. It is also a journey through 2000 years of human history, from the Terra Australis Incognita, whose existence inspired the thoughts of the ancient Greeks, to current questions about the use and future of the icy southern continent. Plus hair-raising stories of Amundsen, Scott and Shackleton, who experienced the full force of nature and often paid for their adventures with their lives.

Look forward to an extraordinary lecture: informative, funny and full of content - presented by André Schumacher with candlelight and red wine.
